We provide both inpatient and outpatient care ranging from acute inpatient medical, surgical, psychiatric, neurological, and rehabilitation care in addition to primary and specialized outpatient services. The hospital has 73 med/surg ward beds (for a total of 159 inpatient beds) and sees over 600,000 outpatient visits per year. The medical center is affiliated with the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Indiana University School of Nursing, which allows for nearly 100 post-graduate physician residents at any given time. Residents also come from Purdue and Butler universities.
The medical center is located two miles from downtown Indianapolis, acts as Indiana's tertiary care facility, and has been serving Indiana Veterans since 1932. With almost $12 million in research support, the facility also conducts extensive research and training programs in such areas as diabetes, alcoholism, AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, pulmonary diseases, cancer and other areas for Veteran health.
